Council Throws Out Plans for 24 hour Casino

Posted under Casino by Peter on Thursday 2 December 2010 at 2:29 am

Plans for a 24-hour casino in Didsbury have been thrown out by town hall bosses.

Grosvenor Casinos submitted proposals to turn a former bingo hall at the Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre into a gambling zone.

But members of Manchester council’s planning committee rejected the plans after residents objected.

The casino would have been at the vacant Buckingham Bingo Club in the entertainment complex, which is also right next to Parrs Wood High School.

Campaigners fighting the plans claimed sixth-form students from the school would be encouraged to gamble if the casino was approved.

The casino was opposed by John Leech, MP for Withington, as well as residents and local councillors.

Coun David Sandiford, who spoke against the plans, said: “Putting a casino near Parrs Wood High School would have been a dreadful decision.

“It was a wholly unsuitable site for a casino and the people of East Didsbury will be absolutely delighted by this decision.”

There is a already one Grosvenor Casino operating on Bury New Road in north Manchester.

The new one would have created around 120 jobs and meant a £3-£4m investment in the refurbishment of the former Buckingham Bingo,

The Rank group, which runs Grosvenor and Mecca Casinos, insisted that the site was already a bingo hall and that permission had been granted in 2007 to turn part of the complex into a casino which was open until 6am. However, the permission was never implemented.

Dago Jailed for Trying to Fraud Gala Casino

Posted under Casino by Peter on Wednesday 26 May 2010 at 4:31 pm

A 20-year-old man who planned to defraud casinos by manufacturing his own cash chips was jailed for a total of 18 months. Augustin Dago contacted companies around the world, including Holland and China, claiming he had a casino in his basement, and asked them to make cash chips in £25 denominations. He even sent photographs to the companies showing the type of chips he required, asking that they be replicated.

In fact Dago planned to cash in the chips at Gala Casinos across the UK and then launder the money he had made through bank accounts he had opened in a false name. Dago applied for a driving licence in a false name, using the documentation to open bank accounts. He also used the licence as identification to enable him to become a member of two London Gala casinos in February 2009.

At Southwark Crown Court on Monday 26 April he admitted four charges under the Identity Cards Act of possession of false identity documents with intent. Dago also admitted giving a false name to the DVLA to get a driving licence and a charge of attempting to possess Gala Casino chips to use in the course of or in connection with fraud. He was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court yesterday, Tuesday 25 May.

The token company reported the order from Dago to Gala Coral Group Ltd, which runs Gala Casinos, informing it that someone had tried to place an order for Gala chips. Gala subsequently reported this to the police.

Dago was arrested by officers from the MPS’s Clubs and Vice Unit, which is now part of the Human Exploitation and Organised Crime Command, in March 2009. Searches at his home address at Richford Street, W6, found the UK driving licence applied for by Dago in his assumed identity that enabled him to obtain Gala Casino membership in a false name.

A computer was also seized by police, which had 13 photographs of Gala cash chips and details of four of the companies Dago had contacted requesting chips be manufactured. It also had verification of his requests from two companies.

Detective Inspector Ann Marie Waller said: “This was a calculated attempt to commit fraud against one of the major gaming groups in the UK. Due to the quick thinking of both the chip manufacturer and Gala Coral Group Limited, Augustin Dago was stopped from circulating counterfeit casino cash chips”.

Russia Opened First Casino

Posted under Casino by Peter on Friday 5 February 2010 at 11:16 pm

The first casino in one of Russia’s designated gambling zones has opened, seven months after the government forced gaming facilities elsewhere to close.

Royal Time Company opened the doors of Casino Oracle in Azov City, on the Azov Sea coast, last Saturday. The 1,500sq.m property features over 200 slot machines and 10 gambling tables, as well as a restaurant and bar. An 11-room hotel is to be opened later this year, with a 233-room hotel planned for 2017.

Although the operator is planning to offer free transport from the cities of Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don, the distances involved and the apparent lack of interest from other investors has raised concern that the gambling zones will struggle to attract visitors.

Facebook Bans Casino Ads

Facebook, has announced an outright ban on advertising online casinos. This is despite the ongoing efforts in the U.S. to legalise and regulate the industry.

The site has released a list of around twenty industries which they find objectionable that includes, “gambling, including without limitation any online casino, sports books, bingo or poker”, these products sit beside firearms, tobacco and spy cameras on the list of banned advertising.

The list goes on to ban and monitor under strict policies: uncertified pharmaceuticals, inflammatory religious content, pyramid schemes and nudity. The company intends to protect its vast online community by adopting and implementing advertising censorship.

The banning of online casino advertising, however, does not stop online gaming operators creating facebook groups and fan pages in order to stay in contact with fans and players, updating them on news and promotions happening at their sites.

Online Casino Returns 500K Euros

Posted under Casino by Peter on Sunday 3 January 2010 at 1:40 pm

One thing that most people don’t expect from online casinos is to have their losses returned but that is exactly what has happened as a yet unnamed online casino has agreed to return 500,000 Euros.

There are some other important parts to the equation. The money was gambled by an employee of an (also) unnamed company. It would now seem that this particular employee is a problem gambler and had embezzled the money from the company.

While the situation of the the online casino agreeing to return the money is unusual, the circumstances surrounding the incident have made it both potentially a legal and public relations nightmare scenario.

Swift movement on the part of the online casino has headed of both these problems and when if the casino is eventually named their action may actually turn out to be a very smart move as most of the reporting of this incident so far has been very positive.

After Trump Entertainment Resorts filed for bankruptcy protection, Donald and Ivanka Trump made a joint bid of USD114m with Beal to buy Trump Entertainment Resorts. The couple was not backed by the bondholders who increased their offer to buy the company for USD225m.

Last week the Trumps withdrew from the team with Beal and supported the bondholders’ offer. Donald Trump would get 10% of the company if the plan is approved.

Before the bank’s offer, Trump Entertainment preferred the Trumps’ plan as it ensured more cash to operate with, while the bondholders’ plan earmarked too more cash for paying down debt.
